While at Carnarvon we drove about 140 km on part bitumen, part sandy dirt track, up to Quobba station to visit some epic surf spots. I felt like I was in a 1970's classic surf movie like 'Endless Summer'. Wrecked boards were left discarded up on the point and there were good looking tanned surfers and old gnarly weathered surfers too, who appeared out of humpies and dusty set-ups....very cool. They were all awsome surfers, including Greg, who conquered his nerves of big waves breaking on coral and the endless stories of sharks we have heard over and over from fellow travellers. WOOT!

Loving your pics....what amazing places and stunning sights you are seeing. Are you planning or have you been to Wilpena Pound in SA or Arkaroola on the edge of the Simpson Desert? We spent a week camping at each place years ago with the kids. Wilpena was stunning. Arkaroola was so different to anything we had seen. The camping ground was a dust bowl and flies everywhere...kids all wanted to go home. But for the fact it was a very long way we probably would have. Decided to give it a few days. However, over the next week we fell in love with the desert. There is such life beyond what is viewed with the naked eye. The silence, the expanse and the beauty. We didn't want to leave in the end. It is an amazing country!

No we didn't see Arkaroola and we drove past Wilpena pound on that part of the Flinders and stopped in at Blinman instead. I think that was one of our 'come back to' spots. We were heading up to do the Oodnadatta track and see Lake Eyre. We stayed at a place called Coward Springs. The desert is sooo awsome. The night skys are amazing. We are now seeing the amazing wildflowers of WA. Aaaah the desert has come alive.
