Above> Milton then Gerroa Below> Home with our wild hair and wild garden. OK we are home now. The last bit of our holiday went so quickly and before I knew it, we have been home for over a week.
We spent the last 10 days at Gerringong enduring lots of rain and windy conditions. It was fine though because we caught up with some family and friends. I also left Greg in Gerringong for a few nights while I headed back to Canberra to sell my jewellery at the Undercurrent Design Market at the National Portrait Gallery. It was weird returning to Canberra briefly, catching up with the girls and my parents and sister and then ducking off again. We came home for good a week ago, and had a fabulous welcome home dinner with Tami and Robyn and Paul. I then got stuck into 5 months worth of weeds. Three days later after some help from the family and aching backs and legs, the garden looks fabulous. I now want to get rid of stuff because you come home with new eyes. We came home with a big realisation that we can live much simpler and perhaps even make a serious move to the coast. Travelling on the road for 5 months made us realise that no one gives a dam who you are or were in time past....they take you on face value, and that was quite refreshing and re- energising. After we left Nungurner we travelled up the coast through beautiful cool climate rainforest. Victoria is such a picturesque place. We took a detour off the highway to check out Cape Conran. We have been told by several friends that Cape Conran is a beautiful place to stay. It was over cast but we could certainly see it's potential given good weather.
We were planning to stop for the night at Araganu, but because of the rain we headed on to Tathra. I had only ever visited briefly before and so it was great to spend a few days there. I really love the area and could easily move here if it wasn't so distant from a larger city. After Tathra, we headed up to Gerringong via Bermagui for best coffee at Mister Jones, a quick look at Rosedale (holidayed there each year for over 30 years) and Bateman's Bay for lunch. It is funny that I have hardly taken any photos since we have returned to more familiar territory. It is still just as breathtakingly beautiful, especially around Tilba and Milton, but it just feels normal after all our travels. We stayed with friends Dore and Marcus at an idilyc place called Nungurner near Lakes Entrance. Dore and Louis the dog showed me all around the area including a walk to the Nungurner jetty. We also had a beautiful walk in the nearby Colquhoun national forest while Greg and Marcus rode through it on their bikes. We had a picnic overlooking the lake at sunset with their son Jasper and their friend Craig. Good times! Dore and Marcus are goldsmiths and have a supurb studio and gallery called Oneofftwo which is open to the public.
We rushed Wilson's Promontory because we had arranged to meet friends, but the little bit we saw, even though it was rainy, has us planning a trip back here to really soak up it's beauty. We only really touched the surface with the photos taken on Squeaky Beach.
Above> We stayed overnight at Jamie and Glenys's beautiful property near Korumburra and then headed down with them to Waratah Bay just near Wilson's Promontory. The country side of the Gipsland area is lush and rich farming area with cute towns along the way. Below> View from Waratah Bay to Wilson's Promontory and Greg and Jamie having a surf. I'll have this house please at Waratah Bay, mmm perfect. A bit of fishy behaviour in Fish Creek, which, by the way, was yet another quaint friendly town in the Gippsland area.
After staying five nights at Barwon Heads, we headed to Queenscliff to take the car and Jake (our Jayco camper trailer) on the 8am ferry over Port Phillip Bay to Sorrento. We have been to Melbourne heaps and so thought this would be a nice alterative to avoid the traffic of Melbs. We had breakfast in Sorrento at The Sisters Kitchen Garden Cafe who grew all their own produce in their courtyard. They made the best organic poached eggs.

My shaky hands are always evident when I use the zoom for some reason, so please excuse the quality of these 2 pics. The koala was camped in a tree over our van in the Kennet River campground. The gorgeous parrots mobbed Greg whenever he ate his toast outside...they sat in waiting, peering in the camper window when we were eating. Greg looking mighty impressed at the pumping surf at Bells Beach.
